Governance
Governance is where you write and approve security policies, start from built-in starter policies, and keep the reusable Sections that policies and reports are built from.
- Who can do this: Contributor · Admin
- In the app: Governance › Policies
- 15 min
| Part | What it is |
|---|---|
| Policies | Your written commitments. |
| Reports | Documents generated from your current data. See Reports. |
| Sections | Reusable blocks of text (see key terms) that feed both, so you write a paragraph once. |
Start from the starter policies
On Governance › Policies, select Sync Starter Policies and confirm when prompted. Sync adds the starter policies you do not have.
Write a policy
- On Governance › Policies, select New policy. An untitled policy opens.
- Enter a title, a category and an owner, then choose the Source: Authored (compose sections), External link or Attachment.
- For an authored policy, select Shared section or Inline section. A shared section can be customised for this policy alone with Customise for this document.
- Reorder or remove sections, then select Save. The Preview tab shows how the policy reads.
A policy follows the same Submit for review and Approve steps as a report; see Reports. Checkpoint and the Versions tab are on the policy page.
Build the Sections library
- Open Governance › Sections and choose New section, or open one to edit it.
- Write the body in Markdown. Use the placeholder shown in the editor to insert a document variable.
- Turn on Shared — reusable across many documents so policies and reports can reference it.
- Select Create section or Save changes.
Deleting a shared section
A policy or report that references a shared section you delete loses that text. Edit shared content here, once, rather than inside each document.
Document variables
Document variables are your organisation's own facts, such as your company name, written once and used by policies and reports. They are saved with the project, so each project can use different values. Saving them needs Admin; see roles and permissions.
- On Preferences, under Document variables, type a new variable's key.
- Switch on Flag if it is a yes/no value. Leave it off for text.
- Select Add, then set the value in the new row.
- Select Save variables.
Delete a policy
Open the policy, select the bin icon beside Save, then Delete.
Export a policy
Open the policy, choose Export, then PDF or Word (.docx).
